Active Directory Audit

Harden the heart of your enterprise network against attackers

Active Directory, the heart of modern enterprise networks, is the primary target in 80% of cyber attacks. We deeply audit your complex AD architecture for misconfigurations, dangerous delegations and AD CS (Certificate Services) weaknesses. Our goal is to make lateral movement infeasible for an attacker and permanently close every path leading to Domain Admin.

Audit and Compliance: This service produces technical reporting aligned with Microsoft Security Baselines, CIS Benchmarks and BDDK Information Systems Regulation identity management controls.

Audit Scope

Identifying hidden weaknesses in identity management

We audit your AD environment using the offensive techniques attackers rely on to take "the shortest path to full privileges."

AD CS (Certificate Services)

AD CS is currently the most commonly used vector for Domain Takeover.

  • •ESC1–ESC13: Analysis of misconfigurations in certificate templates.
  • •Impersonation: User impersonation through weak certificate policies.
  • •PKI Security: CA server and web enrollment interfaces.

Delegation and Privilege Analysis

Misconfigurations like Unconstrained Delegation can lead to compromise of the entire network.

  • •Delegation Types: Unconstrained, Constrained and RBCD risks.
  • •Privileged Accounts: Cleanup of Domain/Enterprise Admins groups.
  • •Service Accounts: MSAs/gMSAs, SPN records and Kerberoasting analysis.

Group Policy (GPO) and Hardening

GPOs can be both a defensive tool and a source of vulnerability for an attacker.

  • •GPP Passwords: Detection of forgotten encrypted passwords in SYSVOL.
  • •Dangerous Permissions: Detection of low-privilege users with GPO edit rights.
  • •LAPS & Hardening: Validation of local administrator password policies.

Hybrid AD and Azure (Entra ID)

Intrusion scenarios from on-prem to the cloud and vice versa.

  • •Azure AD Connect: Sync server security and privilege escalation.
  • •Primary Refresh Token: Cloud identity takeover risks.
  • •Global Admin: Analysis of critical roles and MFA policies.

Methodology

Attack-Graph Based Audit

A structured, repeatable, outcome-driven process. We visualize every path from the lowest-privileged user to Domain Admin and validate each one in a controlled way.

01

Asset Discovery

We map every AD object, trust relationship and permission structure.

02

Attack Path Analysis

Using BloodHound-style attack graphs we identify every path from a low-privilege user to Domain Admin.

03

Technical Validation

We simulate identified paths such as Kerberoasting, NTLM Relay and AS-REP Roasting in a controlled environment.

04

Persistent Hardening

We deliver an actionable remediation plan with specific GPO settings and architectural change recommendations for every weakness.

Delivery

Attack-graph based strategic plan

Using BloodHound-style attack-graph analysis we visualize every path from the lowest-privileged user to Domain Admin and provide specific GPO and architectural recommendations for every weakness.

  • Attack Path Analysis: Visualized technical evidence (PoC) for the paths that reach DA privileges.
  • GPO Hardening Guide: Directly applicable Group Policy configuration recommendations.
  • Compliance Report: Compliance report measuring your AD environment against industry standards and regulatory expectations.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to provide Domain Admin privileges for the audit?

No. The audit is largely performed with a standard domain user account, which also accurately models a real attacker's starting conditions.

Will our production Active Directory be affected?

The analysis relies primarily on read-only queries. Steps requiring exploit validation are pre-approved and executed in a controlled manner.

Are Entra ID and hybrid environments in scope?

Yes. On-prem AD, Entra ID (Azure AD) and the synchronization/federation layer in between (Entra Connect, ADFS) are audited together. Hybrid escalation paths are included in the attack graph.

What will we receive as output?

An attack path graph, a prioritized hardening plan and a detailed report that can serve as technical evidence in audits.

How often should the audit be repeated?

We recommend at least once a year, plus an additional audit after major infrastructure changes such as migrations, mergers or cloud transitions.
